Born in 1976 in Park Ridge, Illinois. Dean Allison was introduced to glass by Jack Wax in 1998 at Illinois State University. He studied painting at the University of Wolverhampton, England and traveled Europe researching art history. Upon graduation from Illinois State University, with a Bachelor of Science in studio arts (specifically in painting and glass), Dean followed glass from Chicago to North Carolina to work for a number of glass artists. He also attended a concentration at the Penland school of Crafts, and apprenticed under renowned glass artist Richard Ritter.

Dean has studied and worked at numerous schools across the country and overseas. His skills encompass a broad spectrum of glass art techniques and styles. He has worked as an artist, technician, and instructor at Chicago Hot glass. He has developed and managed redhotmamaglass, a small scale production line. He has worked on numerous sandblasting and cold worked glass commissions for Blasart in Chicago. He is finishing a Masters in the visual arts at the Australian National University. His sculptural work has precedents in mask making and explores constructions of the figure in reference to identity and portraiture. The glass process is very important in the make-up of these figures as it opens a discovery into characteristics of identity. He is presently represented by Moka Gallery in Chicago.
